Combat roles open for women serving in the Army

Women now have their chance to fight on the Army's frontlines.

As of Monday, 14,325 combat-related roles are now open to women serving in the Army.

Women make up about 14 percent of the armed services, Pentagon figures showed.

Until Monday's announcement, they'd been excluded from jobs deemed too close to ground combat or directly involved in combat.  Additionally, many positions will be opened to women at the battalion level in select direct ground combat units in specific occupations, the Pentagon said.
