Panel Discusses Profiling, Gun Violence & Civil Rights

The National Action Network held its annual convention last week in Washington, DC.  On Saturday, the Reverend Al Sharpton, founder of the civil rights group, moderated a discussion that focused on racial profiling, gun violence and advancing the civil rights movement in the aftermath of the killing of Trayvon Martin.  Speakers included the former fiancée of Sean Bell and the mother of Amadou Diallo -  two men who were both killed in separate incidents by New York City police officers, resulting in allegations of police brutality and racial profiling.  Also at the event  were representatives from the Congressional Black Caucus, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and the National Congress of Black Women. The hour and 15-minute event was held at Howard University.
