Lettie Fisher, Texas Woman, And Her Mentally Handicapped Son, Missing

Authorities in Texas are trying to locate a missing mother and her mentally disabled son. They have not been seen since they went fishing more than three weeks ago. Investigators now suspect the pair may have met with foul play, police said.

According to the Tyler County Sheriff's Office, 79-year-old Lettie Fisher and her son, 31-year-old John Fisher Jr., have been missing since Sept. 19. The mother and son were last seen leaving Lufkin Memorial Medical Center, where the elder Fisher was treated for breast cancer. After leaving the medical center, detectives believe the Fishers went to their Chester home to pick up their fishing gear and then to Wolf Creek.

Many of us read with interest about the blow up between NBA superstar Dwyane Wade and commissioner David Stern. In a heated discussion that took place during the pending NBA lockout, Wade told Stern that he “isn’t his child,” and then stormed out of the meeting. I read about the interaction with curiosity, wondering whether or not I was witnessing the kind of revolt that hasn’t been seen among black athletes since the 1960s.

If this is the case, then NBA team owners are rightfully nervous. If black professional athletes were to get even a whiff of the power that they truly possess, they’d be amazed at what they could do. Here are five reasons that the NBA now has good reason to fear black men:

WCNC News reports that “his nine counts include sex offense of a child and taking indecent liberties with a child.”
